Desert Mountain Members purchased a large parcel of land called “Parcel 19” during the club turnover on December 31, 2010. It is located on prime land close to the intersection at Cave Creek Road and Pima Road. You drive by it, whether you realize it or not, every time you drive in or out of Desert Mountain. The members actually approved the purchase of that parcel of land several years ago but the final payment was not made until turnover. There has been much discussion about this parcel of land and its value to members. The parcel represents, in my opinion, unlimited possibilities.
Most clubs are at maximum physical capacity. They have no room to expand or add new amenities. Just look at Estancia or Desert Highlands here in Scottsdale as examples. Those clubs have absolutely no room to expand services anywhere.
Parcel 19 can be used down the road in numerous ways. The Club has explored the possibility of adding additional housing on a portion of the land. They discussed during a Town Hall Meeting of adding cottages, similar to the Apache Cottages on the Northern corner of the property. This is a good idea because many buyers want to purchase brand new, never lived in homes. There are very few of those left and the Club needs to be mindful of the wants and desires of new members. The Advisory Board also discussed adding a grocery store, movie theater and restaurants on the Southern portion of the parcel, closest to Cave Creek and Pima Roads.
New amenities are good for both current members and for new members. It is important that as the Club’s demographics change the Club will be able to cater to the newest members. They may need to add more family-oriented amenities to get new, younger members into the Club. Young members help the longevity of a Club and keep it vibrant. BTW – Troon Country Club is actively recruiting young members with a great membership deal for those under 40 years of age – Desert Mountain should do the same!
