The sale of Desert Mountain’s Parcel 19 to developer Meritage Homes has been canceled and will no longer be taking place. Meritage Homes terminated the purchase due to a number of market factors.
When asked to explain the reasons behind their decision, Meritage Homes stated that they were concerned about uncertain conditions in the Phoenix housing market. According to the homebuilder’s evaluations, a decline in building permits combined with a growing inventory of new homes and listings greatly increased the risk for many of their planned acquisitions in Arizona. They are currently in the process of withdrawing from a number of pending purchases.
Desert Mountain Golf Club has expressed its disappointment that the sale won’t be taking place, and the board has begun to reassess their options for Parcel 19. Meanwhile, the vote for the Sonoran Clubhouse renovation will be moved up to the fall of this year. The original plan was to postpone the vote to early 2015 after the sale of Parcel 19.
