After much discussion, the Desert Mountain Board has approved new restrictions on rentals. The new rules require a minimum of a 30 day stay for rental properties in Desert Mountain. Members and land owners will be exempted from this rule. The board originally proposed a 60 day 
minimum but this was quickly shot down by the majority of members.
Previously there were no rental restrictions at all in Desert Mountain. You could easily rent a home in Desert Mountain by the night through sites like vrbo or airbnb.
The board feels that the new rules will be appropriate for a private, residential community like Desert Mountain. Considering that every other high end development in North Scottsdale has rental restrictions, I would agree.
Not all members are happy about this. Many people purchased homes in Desert Mountain with the express intent of renting out the home by the night or the week. The rules will now be changed and those types of rentals are no longer allowed. A one month minimum may make it more difficult to rent out a home.
