Changes Made to Desert Mountain Membership Program

Attention Desert Mountain members – Desert Mountain Golf Club is planning to implement a few changes to their membership program. This is in response to issues in new membership sales that have persisted in many private golf clubs and communities, Desert Mountain being no exception.

One of the challenges that Desert Mountain seeks to overcome is the hindrance of new membership sales due to a lengthy reissuance list. One thing that prospective members tend to ask about is the reissuance list. How many members are currently on it? How long does it take to clear? The number of members on Desert Mountain’s reissuance list has indeed grown significantly in the past year, but this is partly because many members wish to secure priority positions, not necessarily because they need to sell their memberships at a given time. A number of golf clubs have explored ways to combat this problem and improve upon their current membership programs.

Below are three revisions that Desert Mountain has recently approved to enhance our membership reissuance process:

Member-arranged transfer – Members can personally arrange for potential candidates to purchase their memberships. Candidates will still need to go through the standard approval process.

Transfer upon death provision – Upon death of a member, the surviving spouse or significant other will have one year (instead of 90 days) to give notice to the Club regarding the membership. During this time, the membership must be maintained by the spouse, transferred to an adult child or grandchild or placed into the membership resale program.

Market-based resale – Desert Mountain will discontinue its existing reissuance list. Meanwhile, the current market-based pricing program will be expanded and made available to all members.
