The state of the art golf Performance Center in Desert Mountain was dedicated to golf legend Jim Flick last week. Jim Flick was director of instruction at Desert Mountain from 1987 to 2005, but is best known for mentoring famed golfers, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Lehman. Flick passed away in November when he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 82.
Lehman dedicated his win in 2012’s Charles Schwab Cup Championship to Jim Flick, just one day before his death. Lehman spoke on his relationship with Flick stating, “He was a great mentor. He just wanted his work to speak for itself. He poured his life into people — the results they had would be his testimony.”
Last week’s dedication ceremony was held on the Renegade course at Desert Mountain. Guests were able to tour the Jim Flick Performance Center before and after the dedication. The Performance Center at Desert Mountain is an astounding 6,500 square feet, housing top-of-the-line golf technology including 3D motion capture, four-camera video motion analysis and Doppler radar. It’s a truly unique technological experience for golf beginners and pros alike. The Performance Center also features a memorial wall that showcases Flick’s career, as well as testimonials from Jack Nicklaus and Tom Lehman.
The occasion was a heartfelt tribute to Jim Flick, a man who touched the lives of many golfers in Desert Mountain and beyond.
