Tom Lehman captured his second straight Schwab Cup title yesterday. He sailed to victory at the Cochise Course at the Desert Mountain Club. Lehman became the first Champions Tour player to win the Schwab Cup in consecutive years. He also becomes the fifth player to win the Charles Schwab Cup twice in its 12-year history, but the first to pull off the feat in back-to-back seasons.
Lehman finished the event at Desert Mountain at 22-under 258, six strokes ahead of runner-up Jay Haas. He entered the week in second place in the season-long points race behind Bernhard Langer, but was able to overtake Langer with a dominating performance in Desert Mountain.
After the round, Lehman said it meant a lot to him to win the Schwab Cup in his hometown.
I was elated when Lehman won the Cup. He is a former neighbor of mine and one of my favorite local golfers. Congratulations Tom!!
