The renovation of the Renegade Golf Course is almost done. The newly designed course will provide new challenges to skilled players, but will still be enjoyable for those new to the game. Jack Nicklaus adjusted the course yardage and it will play from 4000-8000 yards. Renegade will still have two greens on every hole. This gives players the ability to customize their game each time it is played. Holes 10 and 12 can be played as par threes or par fours. Renegade’s back nine is expected to open late March and the full course will be available by late April.
The course will have a new irrigation system, newly constructed bunkers and tee boxes. Also part of the renovation was switching the course from bermuda grass to bentgrass. This makes Renegade the only course in Scottsdale to have bentgrass. Desert Mountain selected this cool season turf so that the course stays green and playable year-round. This reduces the maintenance and water expenses for the club because there is no need to overseed. Desert Mountain will also be using the bentgrass on the new Seven golf course and Chiricahua golf course later this year.
