I recently showed a home in Desert Mountain and was struck by the difference between it and most of the other homes on the market. This particular home was a year-round residence for a family with 2 teenagers and 3 large dogs. Needless to say, the home looked well used. The hardwood floor was scratched and the doors were scuffed. It was definitely in a different condition than the usual home in Desert Mountain. It reminded me just how pristine most homes in Desert Mountain really are.
The typical home in Desert Mountain is a part-time vacation home. It is very lightly used for short periods. Approximately 60% of homes in Desert Mountain are vacation homes and of those, many are 3rd and 4th homes. They are used for a very limited number of weeks per year. If a home in Desert Mountain is a primary residence, the residents are often retirees who travel often and take care of the home immaculately. I will often open the door to a home that is say 5 or 10 years old and I will feel like I am walking into a time capsule. The home may be a decade old but it looks brand new. You can tell that the carpet is barely walked on, the appliances rarely used, etc.
