A recent announcement was given about the closure of the Heard Museum North, a hidden gem for many Desert Mountain art enthusiasts, in the months to come. Exhibits will be closed to the public on April 1st, though the Café and Shop will remain open until May. The Heard Museum will be vacating its northern facility by May 31st, when its lease at the Summit runs out.
A number of events will continue as scheduled in the next few months, including:
Nights at North, February 12th and 19th
Southwestern Tribes short course, March 10th through 31st
Spring Shop Sale, April 4th through 6th
The close is due in part to issues in the long-term sustainability of the current facility at The Summit in North Scottsdale. Though plans for a future location haven’t been announced, The Heard Museum looks continue its outreach in the North Valley through partnerships, festivals and special programs.
For years, the Heard Museum North has been one of Scottsdale’s most beloved attractions. Located just minutes from Desert Mountain, this cultural hub is tucked away behind thick vegetation and can often be overlooked from the street. To those who take notice of it, however, the Heard Museum North is a wonderful place to learn about the area’s rich history and culture.
Perhaps a flashier façade might have benefitted the museum, but its discreet location amidst the towering cacti and flowering plant-life of the Sonoran Desert has always been a part of its charm.
