Every year, it is necessary to close and overseed the six Desert Mountain golf courses. Cochise and Geronimo already closed at the beginning of this month.
While overseeding may impact your chance to play your favorite course, the benefit of the process far exceeds the sacrifice. The agronomy department at Desert Mountain strives to provide members the ultimate golfing experience. It is focused on optimizing the condition of the golf courses, while increasing playability and accessibility for all levels of players. In this effort, overseeding Desert Mountain’s prized courses will allow the grasses a chance to rest and regrow, and ultimately recondition itself into a fine playing surface.
The closure schedule for this year is as follows:
Apache
Closed Monday, July 4th through Friday, October 14th
Chiricahua
Closed Tuesday, July 5th through Friday, October 14th
Cochise
Currently, this course is experiencing a 60% closure for overseeding. This will last until Sunday, July 31st. Later in the summer, the course will experience an additional closures between the dates of Thursday, September 1st through Thursday, November 17th.
Geronimo
Currently, this course is experiencing an 88% closure for overseeding. This will last until Wednesday, August 31st. Later in the fall, the course will experience an additional 25% closure between the dates of Saturday, October 22nd through Thursday, November 17th.
Outlaw
From October 15th through Sunday, November 6th, the Outlaw course will experience a 21% closure for overseeding.
Renegade
From Friday, September 23rd through Wednesday October 19th, this course will experience a 26% closure for overseeding.
Plan to play your favorite course before it closes for reseeding. Once the courses have had a chance to regrow, you’ll want to pencil in a date to try out the new grass. This year’s overseed schedule will result in 16 more golf days annually for members.
