The master board at Desert Mountain Club has decided to increase their speed enforcement rules and fine amounts. As of August 1, 2011 there will be a no tolerance policy for those that drive above the 35 mile per hour speed limit within the community. Fines will be issued as followed:
- First Violation – Warning
- Second Violation – $200 Fine
- Third Violation – $250 Fine
- Fourth Violation – $300 Fine
Excessive speed of 20 miles over the speed limit will result in a $200 fine without a warning.
This decision was made after a traffic study was completed in April of this year. They found that over a 6 month period there were 111,255 drivers that went at least 10 miles over the speed limit. That is a large number when you consider all of the twists and turns that are along Desert Mountain Parkway.
What do you think about the speed enforcement? Is it fair? Do you have any other suggestions on how to make the Desert Mountain roads a little safer for pedestrians and bicyclists?
