Whether to purchase a Desert Mountain Golf Membership (DEGM) is a very personal decision. Some people would never consider living in Desert Mountain without a membership, while others see little use in it. I would suggest that if you want to take full advantage of the six Jack Nicklaus Golf Courses then you will need to buy a full Golf Membership. It costs $325,000 if purchased directly from the Club but can be acquired for much less if it is included with a property.
You may want to wait until February 2011 to buy a membership, if you can wait that long, for a few reasons:
- You will avoid the Club membership assessment when the Club is transferred to the members. The exact date and amount is yet to be determined but each member will receive a bill for approximately $18,000 in January 2011.
- The price of the Desert Mountain DEGM memberships may drop after the members take control of the club. This is typical in other North Scottsdale golf clubs. There is no guarantee that the price will drop but I would be willing to take that bet. Chances are that there will be a decreased rate to entice members in the beginning of the transition. You may be able to save some significant money by waiting a until 2011.
