Casitas, or guest homes, are a popular feature of many Desert Mountain homes. Casita is spanish for “little house”. They are guest homes which are either attached or detached to homes. They are in high demand throughout Scottsdale because of their great versatility. The most common use for a casita is as a guest house. It is wonderful to have a separate space for guests. Casitas are also often used a home offices. Having an office which is separate from the main house gives you a more professional environment, whether you are running a business from your casita or just need that quiet space to manage your financial portfolio.
Casitas are also popular with senior members of the family. Many families have the grandparents living in the casita, at least part of the year. It gives the seniors a sense of independence while the family can still keep an eye on them. It is a great alternative to a seniors residence. Older teenagers love living in the casita as well since they have some sense of freedom while still living at home. I often see casitas made into craft rooms, sewing rooms, hobby rooms, music rooms etc. The newest rage is for the casita to be the “man cave” with beer fridges, wine racks, cigars and comfy leather chairs for the guys. A place to escape and relax.
Whatever their use, casitas are a sought after feature of homes in Scottsdale. For a tour of homes in Desert Mountain with casitas please contact me at Carmen@ScottsdaleExperts.com.
