The Desert Mountain Tennis Center is an exceptional facility, recognized as one of the best in the nation. It is called "The Wimbledon of the West".
The Tennis Center features a beautiful stadium grass court, five state of the art clay (har-tru) courts, and three hard courts.
It is very rare for a Tennis Center to offer play on all 3 court surfaces within the same facility. This is especially true in Arizona.
There are misting systems to provide the players with the utmost comfort.
The Tennis Facility has won numerous awards over the years, including 'Court of the Year Award' from Tennis Industry Magazine, and 'Outstanding Tennis Facility Award' from the U.S. Tennis Court & Track Builder Association.
There is a wide cross-section of tennis players of every level including men, women and juniors.
Throughout the year, Desert Mountain hosts a variety of tournaments and social events.
Special events include the Mixed Double Social, Tennis & BBQ and the Club Championship.
There are also numerous clinics, leagues and other special events designed to satisfy every level of play.
Put the enjoyment back into your game with personal instruction, tennis lessons or clinics by the USTPA certified tennis pros.
Hard Courts - There are three hard courts at Desert Mountain.
The courts are very modern with a cushion based rubber inlay. This provides a more forgiving, player friendly feel.
Traditionally, most leagues in the western half of the United States have used hard courts.
Clay Courts - The majority of clay courts are found in Europe, where red clay is by far the most popular court surface.
If you've ever watched the French Open at Roland Garros, you have seen a prime example of red clay courts.
In America, red clay courts can be founds in the Northeast and some parts of the South, most notably Texas.
On the East Coast you can find the distinctive gray-green Har-Tru court, which is a clay court made from slightly different organic materials.
Desert Mountain has the Har-Tru courts. They are extremely popular courts with Desert Mountain members.
They provide a softer playing surface. They use a Hydro Court system which is essentially a clay tennis court on top of a controlled water reservoir.
The water level is completely level under the court, allowing evaporation and capillary action to provide water to the playing surface evenly.
The system provides an excellent playing surface.
If you haven't played on this type of court, you must try it!
Grass Court - The Stadium Grass court is also called the 'Wimbledon of the West'.
It is an aesthetic work of art, making for a wonderful centerpiece for the entire Sonoran clubhouse.
The grass court was designed with a full water heating system built under the court to provide ideal growing conditions for the grass.
The grass court surface is one of the finest in the world.
On a recent trip to Desert Mountain, former World No.1, Stefan Edberg proclaimed it as the 'finest conditioned grass court' he had seen.
