At Desert Mountain Scottsdale there are 9 exceptional tennis courts to choose from at the Sonoran Clubhouse. Five of the courts are clay, three are hard courts and one is a lush green stadium court. Having all three surfaces at one tennis facility is very rare. This is why Desert Mountain is referred to as the “Wimbledon of the West” and can be enjoyed by members of all skill levels.

Make sure that you are watching for the weekly Spring 2010 Tennis events and socials. There will be a different event each day of the week. Contact the Sonoran Boutique for more information or to sign up at (480) 488-1397.

Junior tennis events will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, for all age groups, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM and will cost $20. On Saturdays there are clinics for two age groups. For children 5 to 9 years old the clinics will be held from 10 to 11 AM and will cost $20. For children 10 years and older, clinics will be held from 11 AM to 12:30 PM and will also be $20.

Men’s Open Play will be held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9 to 11 AM. The Ladies’ Open Play will be held every Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 11 AM.

The Men’s Shootout will be from 1 PM to 3 PM every other Friday. It will be $10 to participate and the top three placed winners will win a percentage of the total pot.

The Ladies’ Clinics will be held every Monday while the open play is held Wednesdays from 9 AM to 11 AM.

Every Wednesday will be dedicated to all of the Desert Mountain tennis fans. Singles round robin will start at 3 PM and goes until 4:30 PM.

The Desert Mountain Tennis Center is an exceptional facility, recognized as one of the best in the nation. It is called “The Wimbledon of the West”. The Tennis Center features a beautiful stadium grass court, five state of the art clay (har-tru) courts, and three hard courts. It is very rare for a Tennis Center to offer play on all 3 court surfaces within the same facility. This is especially true in Arizona.

The Stadium Grass court is an aesthetic work of art, making for a wonderful centerpiece for the entire Sonoran clubhouse. The grass court surface is one of the finest in the world. Most of our clients are very impressed by how immaculate the grass courts always appear. When we show them the Clay courts, usually they will show less enthusiasm. Frankly, the clay courts look gray, dull and odd. You can even see foot prints in the court surface. But that is exactly why I think the clay courts are so cool! The clay Har-Tru courts use a Hydro Court system which is essentially a clay tennis court on top of a controlled water reservoir. The water level is completely level under the court, allowing evaporation and capillary action to provide water to the playing surface evenly. How neat is that? The clay courts provide a softer playing surface. So although they aren’t as pretty as the Grass Courts, they are extremely popular with Desert Mountain members. If you haven’t played on this type of court, you must try it!
