Desert Mountain Club has a fun night planned for the ‘tweens’ in the community. This Saturday, October 1, 2011 is Tween Night. There will be a dive-in movie at the Sonoran Clubhouse family pool from 6-9pm. This event is for children that are 9 to 14 years old and they are encouraged to bring friends. It is $25 per child and $20 per guest/ friend. This includes dinner, dessert, swimming and a movie.

The Desert Mountain Renegade Performance Center renovations are underway. Much of the necessary prep work for the expansion and renovations have been completed. These expansions will include retractable hitting bays, improved golf fitness and flexibility training, advanced equipment fitting as well as increased instructional activity. The goal is to help increase the all around golf instruction that is available to members of the Desert Mountain Golf Club which will in turn make their golfing experience much more enjoyable.

So far they have completed the cart path removal and have started the de-vegetation process which will take about 30 to 45 days to complete. All of the initial architectural plans have been submitted to the city for approval. They are expecting final city approval either later this month or early next month and plan to have the entire project completed late November or early December of this year.

The Desert Mountain Members have cast their votes and a vast majority are in favor of the new Renegade Grill as a casual dining option within the community. Desert Mountain Club has not yet drafted the specific plans of this grill but do intend on expanding the Renegade Clubhouse to incorporate a much more casual atmosphere for members and their guests. The idea is to create a comfortable place to meet for drinks and enjoy casual food options such as burgers, fries and wings.

There were over 1,000 votes received and of these 80% voted in favor of the grill. Thirty-six percent of the yes votes stated that they would visit the grill about once per week while residing in Desert Mountain. Only 6% of the 1,000 member votes will not visit the grill at all. About 79% of the members do not plan on decreasing their frequency at the other clubhouse restaurants once the Renegade Grill opens. The survey also found that it will be very important to include an outdoor patio area. Fifty-five percent of the voters want an outdoor area to enjoy the beautiful Scottsdale weather.

Desert Mountain is offering fun activities for kids at the Youth Activities Center (YAC) this month. Two upcoming events are Kid’s Night Out Valentine’s Day Party and Presidents’ Day Camp.

The Kid’s Night Out Valentine’s Day Party will be held on Saturday, February 12th, from 6-9pm at the Sonoran Clubhouse. It is only $20 per child and is offered for children ages 5 and older. There will be lots of games, Valentine’s Day crafts, a movie, dinner and much more. What a great opportunity for mom and dad to spend a romantic evening out while the kids enjoy their night making new friends and enjoying the festivities.

The Presidents’ Day Camp will be held Monday, February 21st, from 9am to 2pm and is available to children 5 and older. It is $50 per child and includes lunch, games, crafts, prizes and more. You no longer have to wonder what you will do with the kids on their day off from school.

You can RSVP for either of these events by calling the Youth Activities Center in the Sonoran Clubhouse at (480) 595-4359 or by emailing them at YAC@DesertMt.com.

In addition to the planned events for children, the YAC offers daily Playtime Hours Monday through Saturday from 9am to 2pm. It is $10 per child for the 1st hour and then $7 for each additional hour. Each additional child is just $7 per hour. Just call the YAC to make reservations.

Kids love living in Desert Mountain Scottsdale. There are always fun filled activities planned for all ages. The next fun outing planned for the whole family is the Desert Mountain Halloween Carnival 2010 on Saturday, October 30th from 6 to 8:30pm.

The carnival will be held at the Sonoran Clubhouse and will include bounce houses, games, a spooky trick-or-treat walk, outdoor movies and treats for the whole family. They welcome all ages to this event because there is something for everyone. It only costs $10 per child. Adults and children 3 and under are free. Your children are encouraged to bring friends even if they do not live in Desert Mountain. It is only $7 per child if you bring a group of 10 or more.

In addition to the carnival, the Sonoran Clubhouse will also have a separate dinner buffet that night for only $22.50 per adult and $8.95 per child. Desert Mountain is an animal friendly community. Just this week they have officially opened a dog park, “Sparky’s Park”, at the Cochise/Geronimo Clubhouse. It is just adjacent to the driving range. The park will be open daily from 6:30am to 8:00am and 2:00pm to Sundown with Yappy hour every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00pm to Sundown. At yappy hour your dog can enjoy special “Sparky Snacks” while you enjoy drinks and snacks of your own from the Desert Mountain beverage carts.

What a great opportunity for Desert Mountain dog owners to get out and enjoy the beautiful Arizona weather with their best companion. Your dog will enjoy meeting other community dogs while you will get a chance to meet fellow Desert Mountain Club Members. The park will provide a free range of running space as well as play areas that your dog will love. Tennis balls and other dog favorites will be provided at the park for your pets enjoyment so there is no need to bring your own.

In order for them to keep this park safe and inviting they have implemented some rules:

• Owners are legally and financially responsible for the actions of their pets
• Dogs must be licensed and proof of vaccinations must be provided when requested
• Puppies must be at least 4 months old and female dogs in heat are prohibited from the park
• Dogs must NEVER enter the driving range area
• Dogs must be kept on a leash until they have entered the gated park area

Desert Mountain has some of the best dining options for its golf club members. Our team just enjoyed another great dinner at Constantino’s. Constantino’s is located at the Chiricahua Clubhouse in Saguaro Forest. I couldn’t ask for a better private dining experience.

The elegant, yet comfortable atmosphere makes this restaurant the perfect place to enjoy a group dinner, date night or any special occasion. My favorite part, aside from the great food, was the unbelievable city light views. There are multiple patio areas where the views can be enjoyed. Saguaro Forest is the highest village in Desert Mountain so you can imagine how much you can see from up there. The live music was a nice addition to the ambiance as well.

People tend to think that Desert Mountain Arizona is quiet in the summer. Although it’s not as busy as it is in the winter, people do come out to enjoy the beautiful summer nights that the high elevations of Saguaro Forest have to offer. As soon as the sun goes down the temperatures seem to drop by about 15 degrees.

The Desert Mountain Golf Club continues to host activities for the kids. Now is the time to start planning your child’s activities to keep them busy this summer.

The next Kids Night Out event will be held this Friday, May 7, 2010 from 6-9 pm at the Sonoran Clubhouse. The theme of this gathering is “Mom’s Day Gift Making” and it is open to children five years and older. The cost is only $20 and will include dinner and dessert. There will be indoor games, making of mother’s day gifts, watching a movie, and much more.

On Saturday, May 22, 2010 the Sonoran Clubhouse will be hosting the “Summer Kick-Off Luau” from 6-9 pm. This event is open to children eight years and older and will cost $20. The activities of the evening will include pool games, prizes, crafts, dinner, dessert and much more. Wear your favorite Hawaiian luau beach attire to qualify for the luau costume contest.

I enjoyed lunch at the Renegade Hideout at the Desert Mountain Golf Club yesterday. I had forgotten how much I enjoy that place. We even sat at my favorite table by the window. I love how I can sit and enjoy a casual meal and watch the golfers on the practice range. Although the range was busy, everyone had enough space to be comfortable hitting the balls. The restaurant was busy as well but we still got a seat right away. My Asian chicken salad was fabulous. One thing that truly sets Desert Mountain apart from other clubs is the staff truly makes you feel important without feeling like you are in a snooty atmosphere. Oh and of course the scenery. There is not a bad view in the the whole community, day or night. If you aren’t looking at mountains or one of the six Jack Nicklaus golf courses during the day, you are enjoying city lights or a clear starry sky at night. Don’t you think Desert Mountains Members have it made?!
